On The Road; Automatic Travel Accident Insurance

Many members of my family have been involved in the trucking industry, and my father is the last of the line of self employed truckers. Although I don't share his occupation, one thing that we do have in common is our love for the open road. It's why I decided to work for a home hospice program, so I can spend a portion of each day on the road traveling from one patient's house to the next. Because I spend so much time on the road, I know how important it is to be covered by automatic travel accident insurance.

Automatic travel accident insurance is a type of insurance often provided at no charge or very little charge through several different organizations. I happen to have automatic travel accident insurance through two credit cards as well as my home loan. For one card, I, my spouse, and our son are automatically covered against accidental loss of life, limb, speech, hearing, or sight. Some policies limit their travel accident protection to "common carriers" such as busses, planes, trains, or taxi cabs. There, the only catch is that the ticket or ride must have been paid with via the credit card offering the insurance. In a way, it can be a good reason to use debit and credit cards instead of cash while on the road, aside from the natural security of not carrying cash. Some automatic travel accident insurance plans will provide this insurance coverage at any time you or your family may be injured or killed while on the road.

One of the things that I like best about automatic travel accident insurance is that it is a cheap travel insurance plan. You don't need to go out and spend many hundreds of dollars on an insurance plan just because you are going to be on the road. Many of these plans will even provide coverage if you are overseas. So, for example, when I spent a semester in Ireland my Junior year of college, I did not have to worry about what would happen if I should be hurt in an auto accident while in the Emerald Isle. At that time, in addition to having automatic travel accident insurance through my credit card, I was also covered through my parents' auto insurance as well as through the college I attended. The best part was that the cost for all of this was very reasonable.
